How a Water-Cooled Compression Chiller Works

A water-cooled compression chiller extracts heat from a fluid using a vapor compression cycle:

  1. Compressor: Compresses the refrigerant gas to increase temperature and pressure.

  2. Discharge line: Transfers hot, high-pressure gas to the condenser.

  3. Condenser: Converts refrigerant gas into liquid by transferring heat to water.

  4. Liquid line & expansion valve: Directs refrigerant to the evaporator, controlling temperature and pressure.

  5. Evaporator: Absorbs heat from the fluid, cooling it effectively.

  6. Suction line: Returns low-pressure gas to the compressor, completing the cycle.

This continuous cycle ensures efficient cooling for air handling systems, industrial processes, and building HVAC needs.

Applications

  • HVAC systems and industrial air conditioning

  • Chemical and pharmaceutical industries

  • Food storage and processing

  • Large-scale cooling systems in commercial and residential buildings

Advantages Over Absorption Chillers

  • Higher COP (Coefficient of Performance): 1–8 vs. 0.5–1.2 for absorption chillers

  • Compact design and lighter weight: Easier installation and reduced maintenance

  • Faster setup: Can be installed fully assembled in motor rooms or rooftops

  • Lower cost: More affordable than direct or indirect flame absorption chillers

Important Considerations When Purchasing

  • Verify dimensions and weight for transportation and installation

  • Ensure adequate space in the mechanical room for service and annual maintenance

  • Choose a reliable brand with warranty for long-term performance

Form Dama water-cooled compression chillers provide energy-efficient, reliable, and high-performance cooling for any environment, from residential and commercial buildings to large industrial processes.
